Charles Edward Peter Neil Wood, 3rd Earl of Halifax (born 14 March 1944), otherwise known as The Rt Hon The Earl of Halifax, KStJ JP DL is a British peer and Conservative politician. ==Background== Lord Halifax is the third child and only son of Charles Wood, 2nd Earl of Halifax, a grandson of Edward Frederick Lindley Wood, 1st Earl of Halifax, Viceroy of India and Foreign Secretary. His mother, Ruth Alice Hannah Mary Wood (née Primrose), ''The Countess of Halifax'', was a daughter of Capt Rt Hon Neil James Archibald Primrose, MC MP, and a granddaughter of The Rt Hon Archibald Philip Primrose, 5th Earl of Rosebery, 1st Earl of Midlothian, KG, PC, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom〔http://www.thepeerage.com/p2259.htm#i22582 |title=p. 2259〕 and The Rt Hon Edward George Villiers Stanley, 17th Earl of Derby KG, GCB, GCVO, TD, PC, KGStJ, JP.〔http://www.cracroftspeerage.co.uk/online/content/halifax1944.htm〕 He was brought up at Swinford Paddocks, Newmarket and educated at Eton and Christ Church, Oxford.
